Jamba 5k BananaMan Chase

The 7th annual Jamba BananaMan Chase, held this morning at Ala Moana Beach Park, proved fruitful for participants, Muscular Dystrophy Association of Hawaii (MDA) and Hawaii Speed & Quickness, a skills training program for aspiring youth athletes.  This a-peeling event raised approximately $24,000 for the two charities. In addition, FREE Jamba smoothies for a year were awarded to the top 3 finishers in each age group that passed the BananaMan!

“Hawaii’s Wackiest Race” drew over 800 people who walked, ran and strolled their way along the 3.1 mile course throughout Magic Island with the goal of catching the bunch of lead runners wearing Jamba banana costumes. Celebrity Bananas included news anchors Dan Meisenzahl from KITV, Stephanie Lum from KHNL and John Veneri from KHON participated in the race on a Segway!

First place honors in the male division went to Todd Iacovelli with a time of 15:13 and Kelly Calway took home the first place medal for the women with a time of 18:48. See below for other top place finishers.

Following the race, participants enjoyed free Jamba smoothies, Speed & Quickness drills, a bounce house, massages by JACO and prize giveaways.
Over the past six years, the Jamba Banana Man Chase has partnered up with MDA Hawaii, raising over $180,000 for children and adults with muscular dystrophy. This year, Jamba added a second charity, Hawaii Speed and Quickness, an organization founded by UH Warrior Football defensive coach (and former NFL player) Rich Miano, and UH trainer Mel DeLaura. They offer state of the art speed and agility conditioning training for kids ages 7 and up.
